Zohar Valach

My project began last summer, 5000 kilometers from Jerusalem, in a town called Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, near the Spanish-French border. From there, I hiked 850 kilometers to the impressive Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. The trek is called “Camino de Santiago”, and it crosses Spain from east to west (its origin is a Christian pilgrimage route).

Inspired by that journey, throughout the past year I’ve tried to recapture some of the experiences from that trip: loss of time, meditative walking pace, random and new adventures, coming across the unexpected and independence.

Along the journey I’ve collected smells, sensations, tastes, climate changes in my memory and chose to create with those materials in mind. I tried to transfer the feelings from my journey to my work. I have refined several sensations which characterize some of the trips I have taken part in, and created objects which will bring out my experiences and feelings from those countries.
